About Organic Compatible Fluids

About About Organic Compatible Fluids

Organic compatible silicone fluids, typically bearing alkyl or aryl substituents, offer many of the benefits that traditional silicones supply, along with added flexibility in their scope of use.

Silicones with alkyl substituted side chains can help bring some of the advantages of silicone to organic formulations that would typically be incompatible with silicones. These organo-modified silicones offer improved lubricity, mar resistance, excellent leveling, lower tack, and higher oxidative stability when compared to organic oils. These properties make this class of silicone excellent for use in die casting, plastic mold release, textiles, personal care, automotive, and ink/coating applications. Alkyl functional silicones also improve plastic on plastic lubrication and possess a lower tendency to migrate from plastic parts than typical dimethicone fluids. In personal care applications these silicones provide high gloss and excellent emollience.

Aryl functional silicones offer even higher compatibility with many paintable formulations and aromatic solvents. Aryl functionality further increases thermal and oxidative stability in comparison to organic, dimethicone, and alkyl functional silicones. They offer improved compatibility with paintable formulations and will not interfere with post treatment painting. Aryl groups also greatly improve the refractive index of the silicone, which improves gloss for personal care applications.

Alkyl/Aryl Functional Silicones

Methyl/Octyl Functional Fluids

Methyl octyl silicone fluids consist of multiple methyl/octylsiloxane units and no arylsiloxane units. These are recommended for organic systems that require the benefits of silicone but are too incompatible with standard dimethyl silicones. Genesee Polymers manufactures the methyloctyl silicone fluids listed below:

Alkyl/Aryl Functional Fluids

Alkyl/Aryl silicone fluids consist of both alkylsiloxane units and arylsiloxane units. These are recommended for use in organic formulations that require higher temperature resistance or increased compatibility with paintable formulations. Genesee Polymers manufactures the alkyl/aryl silicone fluids listed below:
