About Phenyl Functional Silicone Fluids
Phenylsiloxanes are a broad category of silicone fluids that contain phenyl groups substituted for methyl groups in the siloxane backbone. High phenyl content increases rigidity in the siloxane backbone, and so high-phenyl content silicones tend to be more viscous or even solid. Other parameters, like refractive index, surface tension, and the dielectric constant also increases with phenyl content.

Genesee Polymers Corporation manufactures three diphenyl/dimethyl functional silicone fluids with the following structure depicted below. Diphenyl content for these polymers has been specifically chosen to provide optimal thermal and oxidative resistance over a wide range of viscosities, while still providing the beneficial release properties inherent to dimethyl functional silicones.
